Plovdiv is one of the most popular and beautiful cities in Bulgaria. It is famous for its remarkable landmarks. Undoubtedly one of the most visited travel spot is the Antique theatre which is located in the Old town Plovdiv. The antique theatre was founded in 2nd century and it is believed to be one of the most preserved antique theatres in both Europe and all over the world. It was discovered during the process of archaeological excavations.
The place where the spectators should sit, is divided into two. Each spot has 14 rows, made of marble. The seats are also grouped in sectors from the top of the theatre to the scene. Just right to the stage there is a facility which serves as actors’ dressing room. Archaeologists discovered there beautiful statues and important inscriptions. The theatre in Plovdiv can accommodate from 5 000 to 7000 people who come here to experience the special atmosphere and the art of the spectacles.
In the past the Antique theatre in Plodviv was completely destroyed due to an earthquake or fire. As a result only 20 of the total 28 rows were found. Actors’ dressing room was completely destroyed and therefore it was necessary to restore it after archaeologists made many researches to learn more about its original condition.
Nowadays the theatre in Plovdiv can accommodate approximately 5 000 people, because it has been adapted to the modern lifestyle of Plovdiv city. The antique theatre is one of the most important cultural monuments in Bulgaria, because it has retained its original charm and it carries the cultural legacy through the ages.
