There are more than 40 bridges in the village of Sokolovtsi, Smolyan area.
Sokolovtsi is proud to be the place in Smolyan area with the greatest number of bridges, said the mayor of the village. She also pointed that the village is better known in the area as “Small Venice”. The reason why so many bridges have been built is the location in the river valley of Byala River. All of the bridges were gradually restored. There is a ‘Roman bridge’ in the village of Sokolovtsi and the legend says that it was built by a master who has stopped working after he built in it the shadow of his best friend.
