It is estimated that about 8-10 million BGN are needed for the whole restoration process
The monastery “St. Constantine and Elena” in the sea resort St. Constantine and Elena had been built in the 16th century, but then it was renovated in the 19th century. According to the bishop, many of the reconstructions which have been made were inappropriate. He explained that the intention of the bishopric is the restoration of the authentic appearance of the whole complex.
At the moment the monastery is a two-storey building. The church has been given a permit for the building of additional three storeys.
“St. Constantine and Elena” is the only monastery in Bulgaria and Europe where curative water springs beneath the holy throne in the altar of the monastery’s church. Bishop Kyril also added that the bishopric has begun to write a description of the miracles of the holy spring. He also expressed his belief that the monastery can turn into a centre of the development of religious tourism after its complete renovation.
Varna Tourism Chamber supported also the idea and it awarded the monastery a special prize for the development of spiritual activities. Bishop Kyril also added that three new monasteries should be built in the territory of the eparchy and their lands have been already allocated.
