Switzerland's Suter Wins First Bulgaria Ski World Cup Downhill

Fabienne Suter, from Switzerland, won the women's World Cup downhill race on Friday as top class skiing returned to Bansko's slopes for the first time in 25 years, US based ESPNstar reported.
Switzerland's talented young skier Suter won the the women's World Cup downhill race in Bulgaira with a time of 1 minute, 45.68 seconds to edge Austrian Andrea Fischbacher (1:46.83) into second.
"I was extremely nervous because I had never been in the role of a favourite after my good training times. The course is very steep and winding which suits my style. I expected to do well in a downhill someday, but not so soon," Suter said.
Lindsey Vonn, who became the most successful American skier in the women's World Cup history last Sunday by winning a super-G for her 19th career victory, tied for third alongside Italy's Nadia Fanchini with a time of 1 minute, 46.92 seconds.
Despite the third-place finish, Vonn remains on top of the overall standings with 1,434 points.
German Maria Riesch (1:48.92) trails Vonn by 346 points after finishing 18th on Friday.
Sweden's Anja Paerson did not finish the event, but is third in the overall standings with 960 points.
This event was originally scheduled to take place in December at St Moritz, but was postponed due to high winds. The second FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2009 downhill race and the super-G will both start at noon Saturday and traffic around Bulgaria's Bansko is expected to be busy so if you are planning on going to watch it is a good idea to set off early, officials stated.
