Summer resort Albena invests more in green hotels

Bulgaria’s summer resort Albena, a popular family holiday destination, invests funds in 11 green and eco-friendly hotels in the resort. They account for 30% of the hotel base in the resort. The news was announced by the marketing director who revealed that the number of green hotels should gradually increase.
The solar panels on an area of 900 m2 can save around 60 000 BGN annually. The installation of bio gas facilities will start in the summer. The idea is to heat the water of the future aquapark and thus extend the summer season. Also the managers of Albena consider the idea to also heat some hotels in the winter and they will be opened throughout the year in order to use Albena travel resources to the fullest.
The electricity supply is not effective and this is why Albena would focus on alternative energy sources. The investment in green energy projects made Albena winner in the national edition of „RELACS – alternative energy in tourism 2013". Over 110 hotels from 15 countries participate in the project and the European winner will be announced on 8th of March 2013.
