Shoumen fortress to be renovated

The project of Shoumen Municipality “Restoration and conservation of Shoumen Fortress-a cradle of civilizations which lived in Bulgaria” was approved for being financed by European funds. The project includes restoration and conservation of the fortress walls, improvement of the infrastructure in the region, lighting on the eastern and western fortress walls.
Renovation works will exceed the amount of 415 000 EUR. Shoumen municipality will provide 15 % of the financial funds needed for the renovation. A system controlling the temperature and humidity is planned to be purchased and thus the artifacts found in the fortress will be preserved.
