Rose oil production is one of Bulgaria’s most successful tourist attractions that draw tourists
Аnita Valentinova, 23.09.2011
More and more foreign tourists are attracted by the opportunity to see how the world-famous Bulgarian rose oil is produced. Rose oil is considered a unique product that is produced exclusively in Bulgaria. Organized tourist visits related with the production of rose oil are becoming increasingly popular. Rose oil contains some 300 constituents and some of the elements have not yet been fully researched. The technology of processing, harvesting, the properties of rose oil and the application of final products raise questions that are related to the increased interest of tourists. Even Bulgarians are not so acquainted with the properties of Bulgarian rose. Many people come in the museum in order to learn new facts about rose oil. € 4,500 is the price of one kilogram of rose oil and three and a half tonnes of rose petals are needed for its production. The price is high, because the product of rose oil requires manual and time-consuming work. All visitors of the ethnographic complex will be able to find out why the price is so high. Rose harvesting is an exotic attraction for foreign tourists and they are pleased to take part in it.
After rose petals have been collected, tourists will be able to learn how they are processed through the method of double steam distillation which is entirely licensed by Bulgaria. Tourists are particularly attracted by the properties of Bulgarian rose oil since only some of the foreign tourists are aware of the properties. Yet, the proven properties of the products of the Bulgarian rose oil are applied in cosmetics, medicine and the food industry.
