9.7 % growth of the number of tourists in winter season 2008/2009

The winter season is still running, even March is not over but Bulgaria has already registered 9.7 % growth of the number of tourists, deputy head of the State Agency for Tourism Stanislav Novakov reported.
He also announced that Bulgarian tourism companies would not be able to decrease prices further.
In fact, the overall tendency is a gradual change from the traditional early reservations to last minute bookings.
All popular holiday destinations have already registered a decrease in the number of tourists this year, head of the Bulgarian Association of Tourism Agencies (BATA) Donka Sokolova said.
Nevertheless, Bulgaria has managed to control the processed and it not so affected by the crisis as other countries did.
Golf holiday offers were the price shock which Bulgarian tour operator have made during the exhibition in Berlin.
A research among Turkish and Portuguese representatives showed that they regarded Bulgarian offers as around 50-70% lower than the best prices they can offer.
No hotel bankruptcies are expected in Bulgaria, because prices and the high standards of service make Bulgarian a competitive destination and, as result, Bulgarian tourism product is on demand, Novakov said.
A great number of Romanian tourists visits are expected in Bulgaria since Bulgaria is affordable for them as a holiday destination.
