Nearby natural sites of prominence are Kostenets Waterfall and Kostenets Lake. Kostenets municipality is known for the 150 year old temple St. Archangel Mihail (in the village of Kostenets), St. Spas monastery, St. Grand Martyr George temple, St. Pantaleimon church and the chapels St. Ilia and Sta. Petka. There are also preserved tumuli and remains of 11 ancient villages from the Bronze age, Early and Late Iron Age. The Trayan Gate fortress dates back to Roman times, but in Bulgarian history it is known with the defeat suffered in 986 by the Bulgarian Czar Samuil from Emperor Basil II.
