“Bulgaria is well-known as a cheap destination and this is one of the reasons why no tourism collapse is expected in 2009. Moreover, this is the right moment to double the income.” said the Chairman of Bulgarian Union of Balneology and Spa Tourism, Mr. Sharlopov.
Bulgarian country must make a strategy to increase tourism income at the background of world financial crisis.
“Bulgaria must represent its tourist product not only as a combination of ski and sea.” said Mr.Sharlopov during a conference, dealing with problems of Bulgarian tourism in Grand Hotel “Sofia”.
Although the unique combination of mountains and sea gives an opportunity to Bulgaria to make huge profit from tourism, it is extremely important for Bulgaria to escape from its image of tourism destination only for ski and sea holidays.
The country can offer all-year tourism, as it can include yacht tourism, congress tourism, and Spa tourism, because there is abundance of curative mineral springs, Bulgaria has rich thousand-year history and many ancient cultural monuments can be seen.
According to Mr.Sharlopov, Bulgarian wellness and spa resources are lucrative business, but not enough developed field of tourism.
If the country aims at developing tourism and increasing the revenue from it, this natural affluence should be well developed.
