Veliko Turnovo city among top 10 preferred destinations in Eastern Europe

The number of tourists who have visited Bulgaria’s city of Veliko Turnovo since the beginning of the year exceeded 1 million people. This means that the number of tourists has increased twice in comparison to 2009. A description report pointed out that Veliko Turnovo has been announced for the cultural capital of the Balkans and it is one of top 10 preferred tourism destinations in Eastern Europe.
In order to ensure the restoration and maintenance of attractive tourism objects, the municipality has invested over 5 million BGN over the past few years. Attractions in Veliko Turnovo such as the impressive light show ‘Sound and Light’, ‘Samovodska charshia’, the architectural and historic reserve Arbanassi, as well as many festivals, strengthened the position of the city as a wealthy cultural tourism destination. According to the director of the History Museum, all attractions should be constantly changed in order to foster of the interest of tourists and make them visit the city over and over again. The most visited tourist site in Veliko Turnovo is the Tsarevets hill. All visitors will be glad to hear the second castle at Trapesitsa should be opened by the end of the year.
