Borovets is an International ski resort, located at the foot of Mousala Peak in Rila Mountain. Borovets is huddled in venerable coniferous forests which have given its initial name Chamkoria. The altitude varies from 1230m to 1390m and this influences the healthy climate in the resort.
Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria. It is located 75km southeast of Sofia and 125km west of Plovdiv city. Borovets or Chamkoria- the history of a modern, famous ski resort in Bulgaria

The history dates back to 1896 when Ferdinand, a Bulgarian king, built a summer residents and chalets. Subsequently, many wealthy people from the capital city decided to build their holiday villas in the resort. The actual development of Borovets was in 70ties of 20th century as many Alpine style hotels and ski facilities were also constructed. The first name of Borovets was ‘’chamkoria’ which is derived from Turkish language and means ‘’pine forest’. The name was changed in 1943.
Another legend says that in 1896 the mayor of Samokov built a wooden house for his ill spouse. He hoped that the mountainous air and the scent of the pine forests would help his wife improve her condition and she would get healed.
